New song, Crepe Place show January 3rd

new song lyrics:

-
I don't care what the people say.
I don't care how the people pray.
Because I just wanna live my life,
and I just wanna live my life, and I
just wanna live my life till the day I die.

(Chorus)
I wanna feel good.
I wanna feel well.
Cannot wait to get out of this
bedroom cell.
x2

I Don't Care
Stay pure like the autumn air.

I know I take this town for granted.
I know my opinions are often slanted.
Like a mountain top my goals are hard to climb.
My success is determined by a straight line.

(Chorus)
I wanna feel good.
I wanna feel well.
Cannot wait to get out of this
bedroom cell.
x2

I Don't Care
Stay pure like the autumn air.

We sure are looking forward to our show on January 3rd at the Crepe Place with Death of a Party and Scissors For Lefty. Should be a fun time. We miss performing for you and all of our friends. The newest songs like this one will be unveiled. So watch the skies people,

Taking A Break, Kind of...

So after playing 3 shows 3 weeks in a row we are pretty tired. We played Halloween in San Francisco w/ Big Brother & The Holding Company, The Knitting Factory in Hollywood w/ Scissors For Lefty, and lastly the atrium with Jaguar Love. It was a long 3 weeks and we all were very stoked on how the shows turned out. We have managed to really improve our live performance at the last shows, and we feel as though things are moving along nicely. The show in San Francisco might've been one of the best performances we've ever played. The stage was certainly the largest we've ever played on. The wind was mighty, but we trudged on through. Halloween was a good show. I forgot to tell this story about that show. There was a wonderful Asian woman who came up to us after the show. She seemed so shy, yet she approached us with such amazement and appreciation (she had a bloc party pin, that was so cool). She bought a cd and left by telling us she'd be at another show of ours in San Francisco in the future. I love that kind of stuff. Devotion is golden.
For now we are on a month off break, and we are really happy about it.
Performing gets tiring.
Noah and I got together last night to work on new songs.
They are coming out good.
Edge is key.
And powerful shit.
Shit that makes you feel good and want to ride your bike down a hill to.
We'll be writing a couple new songs and practicing.
Stay tuned.
We'll be back January 3rd to play at the crepe place with SCISSORS FOR LEFTY + DEATH OF A PARTY.
love,
-Jordy

A Lot of Cool Things Just Happened

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Last night was amazing.
Cannot believe the outcome of the 2008 election.
Change is Coming.
Besides that some cool stuff is happening for us.
We just played the San Francisco halloween festival.
Mason's dad Craig did a great blog post about that:
www.zenberg.blogspot.com
The show went well.
We were interviewed for a television program that I'm not sure when it will be aired.
At first there were only like 20+ people watching Big Brother & The Holding Company which made all of us kind of sad. There were like all blues bands before us which was cool too. Met some of the Big Brother and The Holding Company folks. They were awesome. We got a case of free icelandic water, a bunch of food, saw someone running around in a huge hamster ball, and had a great time. The band before us had the lights and power go out which made us nervous and sad for them, but they pulled through it.

Then we took the stage.
The youthful crowd gradually came over to watch us play and out of all the acts that played before us we had the largest crowd (Max. 80 people). The stage was huge and we had all the rad lights shown on us. We played SUPER well and rose to the occasion of having such a huge stage.

It was fun

Also we have two shows coming up in the next two weeks.
one is this Saturday November 8th with Scissors For Lefty, Killola, and Voxhaul Broadcast in Hollywood at the Knitting Factory mainstage. It starts at 8pm (doors) and we go on at 8:30pm.
Come Early.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The next show in Santa Cruz that we are playing is at the Catalyst Atrium with Jaguar Love, Mountain Animal Hospital, and Room For A Ghost on November 15th at 8pm.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
We'll be performing on 101.1 Freak Radio Santa Cruz the day before the show at 4pm.
Tune in.
OBAMA!

new song

i have garnered a new appreciation for simplicity and minimalistic beauty.
i cam to many epiphanies today including where this band will take me and where it will hold me back. besides that, dig these lyrics.

(G-Amin-C)
Tell me what you want to do.
I'm Just walking down this road.
Friday night, schools done, and
I want to see you later.
But all my friends and all your friends
they're doing it once again.
All my friends and all your friends
they're getting loaded all over again.

[Chorus]

New Mix

Here is a mix i made while bored in photo class. It has some great old school rock music, which a lot of you know is the stuff i dig on. I hope you enjoy this mix it is an interesting combination of semi-old and really old music. The Vox Jaguars just got asked to play a very important show with Scissors For Lefty at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. Very Much excited about the show, i hope we end up doing it.
Here's the music!
One Minute Up One Minute Down Mix:

1. Come In Alone-My Bloody Valentine
2. You Are Full Of Shit (Check Out My Sweet Riffs)-Giant Drag
3. Lounge (Closing Time)-Modest Mouse
4. Grease-Thee Oh Sees
5. Climbing Up The Walls-Radiohead
6. Good Fortune-PJ Harvey
7. Junk Bond Trader-Elliott Smith
8. I Will-The Beatles
9. The Cars Hiss By My Window-The Doors
10. Only The Lonely-Roy Orbison
11. America The Beautiful-Ray Charles
12. Jigsaw Puzzle- The Rolling Stones
13. What Goes On-The Velvet Underground

This is a fabulous album.
If you've never heard of PJ Harvey you should definitely go read about her and her devotion to music. Polly Jean Harvey has so many albums and a wide variety of material. She's big on Nick Cave and Bob Dylan and she plays heavy rock and sweet ballads too about love and lust. Interesting lady.

We will be unleashing a new song.
The band during a practice break named officially named the song after a rediculously long name battle.
The song is called "Swift Street"
It is named after the street where our practice space is uploaded.
Also we just got our rough sketch of the new album art.
It is done by Timmy Eyes.
Check it out and let us know what you think.

cleanse my mind

I know it has been quite a while since i have made a new blog post and I apologize for that. Things have been really good with The Vox Jaguars. We played a jam packed show at pergolesi last saturday and we were very happy with the turnout. It was our first show with Noah on guitar and we're looking forward to the future of the band having two guitars. Right now we are currently working on two new songs. We've written one new one already and i think we are calling it "Rumble". It is a psychedelic 60s rock 6/8 #1 jam that is infectiously fun to dance to. We will be playing it at our next show at The Crepe Place with Man/Miracle and The Botticellis on september 26th 8pm $8. Man/Miracle is like one of our best friend bands, they totally rock.

There was also an article about us in the Metro Santa Cruz this week.
Check it out: http://www.metrosantacruz.com/metro-santa-cruz/09.17.08/muz-0838.html

"The sound they've created is well beyond their years. Topf sings in a swanky, almost Jagger-esque croon, and, with crisp and quick guitars and loud and minimal drums, the music takes full advantage of his unique vocals. Crepe Place music booker and all-around badass Adam Bergeron sounded off about the Jaguars and their upcoming show, calling them "America's next indie sensation." "I love these kids. I mean, Jordy will call me and say, 'I'm trying to get some extra bands to play with us and I called Death Cab For Cutie but they haven't got back to me yet,'" Bergeron laughed. "Still, I think it's universally agreed that he's the next big indie rock kid."

A couple days ago we also found out that we will be playing bottom of the hill in San Francisco on October 1st with The Felix dukes. We also got a show in Monterey with The Mystery Lights at the lounge underground. A lot of things are a float.
Adam Levin our manager has a meeting with Tony at ABC Studios on Tuesday.
Which is very exciting I am hoping that we landed the webisode series with them.

Here is a recent mix i made.
Check out the bands if you've never heard them.
I think I'm going to start doing a mix thing for this blog.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

1. Gravity Grave - The Verve
2. Beetlebum - Blur
3. Time Is Honey (So Cut The Shit) - Brian Jonestown Massacre
4. Can't Find My Way Home - Blind Faith
5. Set Me Free - The Kinks
6. There She Goes - Babyshambles
7. Seven Years of Holidays(for Stretch) - The Walkmen
8. Loch Raven - Animal Collective
9. Pink Moon - Nick Drake
10. Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell
11. Alameda - Elliott Smith
12. Red Moon - The Walkmen
13. Nevertheless - Brian Jonestown Massacre
14. Sad Song - Oasis
15. Guess I'm Doing Fine - Beck

Enjoy this mix my comrades,

-Jordy

Los Angeles Trip Part II

So after having cream sodas and red ice teas with Ariel in silverlake at Intelligentsia we finally had to head over to Adam's to prepare for the interview/audition with ABC. We headed over there quickly and it felt good to have talked to Ariel about birthright Israel. We waited outside Adam's house and he came out looking like dapper dan in a dope ass suitjacket.

"Man you look like you're trying to 1up us!"

"Well I gotta look better then you guys."

Then we darted over to the disney/abc building after driving through a bunch of hollywood sets, colombia records, elektra records, warner brothers studios.
We finally got to the right building holding up the sign ABC.
They guy at the toll booth took all of our ids in order to confirm that we had an appointment. Noah, Trevor, and Mason gave him their driver's licenses and I gave him my school id. Everyone got a kick out of that. As we entered the premisis of the ABC buildings we noticed that the overhang of the main office building was being held up by the seven dwarves. In addition to the dwarves, the elevator to the parking garage had a huge mickey mouse wizard hat on it.
We entered the meeting with a great deal of nervousness due to the fact that the man who was interviewing us was fairly intimidating and had a strong personality. The music directors from the licensing department were awesome though. The meeting in short went fairly well. We played our asses off (swagger) when at the 2/3 mark of the meeting the emmy winning boss asked us to play. We were awkward in the first half, but towards the 2nd half of the interview we started warming up to them and we had a few good laughs and the left the audition with a feeling of strength.

A Recent Los Angeles Trip

On sunday at 2pm we met up at the practice space packed up two guitars, a tamborine, a shaker, and a couple bags and began our long journey to los angeles. It took us a long time because we made a couple stops (In-N-Out Burger and Santa Barbara hellz yeah). Noah's a vegetarian so it sucked for him when we bought juice burgers, but he said he was content eating snacky chip things that you'd buy at the average gas station. So we rolled into Los Angeles after a grueling 6 1/2 hour drive and we met up with Adam at his apartment in Silverlake. He gave us the itinerary for the next day. So after receiving all the information and seeing our manager in the most casual clothes we'd ever seen him in we decided to get to our hotel finally and drop all of our shit off. We snuck in through our Motel 6 off of hollywood without them knowing that we had been stuffing 4 people into one room (via the underground parking garage). After we dropped our stuff off we grabbed some food at this local pizza place (the pizzas were huge and i ended up getting a gyros). After walking down hollywood for a while Mason and the rest of us ran into a funny situation.

He saw some friends of ours who we knew were visiting in La driving down Hollywood blvd. We called them and met up with them in their green volvo. It was shocking. After wasting an hr with our lunatic friends Mason and I eventually got back to the hotel in one piece and we all crashed at about 12. I was so nervous about our audition with ABC TELEVISION the next day that i barely slept at all that night. The next morning we rolled out of bed at 8:30 and got our beautiful faces on for the meeting with ABC and breakfast with Adam. We went to this spot that we'd been twice before the last trip. It was a sweet burger joint in Los Feliz (where the real culture is) called fred 62. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Adam, Mason, and I got this thing called Strawberry Berret.
It was waffles covers in delicious strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!
After that we killed some time with Adam and drove down to some wonderful stores in Echo Park. We passed Sunset Lodge which was the recording studio that we recorded our new -EP- at. The first store in Echo Park we went to was filled with all this old style stuff. They had 3D glasses, dinosaur eggs, old posters, flint, gold pens, soap, funny shit idk. It was intriguing. The girl that worked there (Noah and I came to the conclusion) was super beautiful and that he should've gotten her phone number. After that store we went to a pawn shop that had a gnarly buzz in door where trevor got a really sweet drum symbol for way cheaper then it was worth. There were some gnarly cholos walking in there who looked like they had stolen the shit they were about to sell to the seedy pawn shop. Then we went to American Vintage across the street where Noah bought this rad black members only jacket. He is officially ready for the disco. After that we met up with our producer of the new -ep- at this cool coffee shop and talked about music and the world.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'm going to have to talk about the ABC interview in the next blogpost.
Anyway goodnight everyone.
Love,
-jordy

The Future

Lately I have been thinking a lot about the future (as every teenager thinks of at a certain point of their life). Each summer I try to come out of it with a new look on life or a new frame of mind per say.
That is what the subject matter of a lot of my reccent writings have been about. Life is a tumbling wheel. It sure can be a startling thing, and when you leave your hometown to the city. It hits you, and sooner or later you're there! My time has yet to come. Soon though my friend.

As for my band The Vox Jaguars we practiced last night and it was our last band practice with Sam C. on keyboard. He is going to college and we may never see him ever again. He's going to Michigan State University (East Lansing). All the way out there. Everyone seems to be leaving. But we went over to Sam's house yesterday before practice and worked on the keyboard parts with Noah our new keyboardist/guitarist. Noah will be taking over that important position in our band.
Some news with ABC television has arrisen as well, but we'll tell you about that later. We're going down to Los Angeles on August 24th to have a very important meeting. Other then that be sure to check out our show with Evacuee at Pergolesi on September 13th.

Tonight's Show In Oakland

So we played another show in Oakland, California.
This time it was on a Monday night. Our amazing friend John gave Sam and I rides (if you're reading this John thanks a ton again man).
So we rolled up into Oakland and quickly rushed over to Hector's house to go see his new pad on Martin Luther King Jr. way. It is a sweet pad at that.
He still has an entire room dedicated to a record and Cd collection.
It was good hanging with him for about a half hour.
I was sketched out about my equipment still being in the car.
It was parked on a fairly sketchy street in the daytime. When we got back to the car it still had the amps and guitars in it. I was stoked. So we went to Mama Buzz Cafe to go play the show. It was a cute tiny little coffee house art space. Trevor said he hated it, but I was pretty happy to play a show again since it had been awhile.

Waited around awhile for Dylan from Man/Miracle to show up, but as soon as he showed up and set up we charged through a sweat dripping set full of screaming, heads bobbing, jumping on the chairs, and energetic rock and roll songs.
A lot of our friends showed and that made us very happy that we received the support. It was a fun show.
Here is a flyer for our next one:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
And here was the flyer for our show at Mama Buzz Cafe tonight:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I really got a theme going for these fliers.
I think I'm going to continue with it.
Next someone is going to think that Morrisey will be playing at Metamusic Records or the Blue Lagoon, hahah such a great scheme. Stay tuned ladies and gentlemen, we'll be taking a break soon to be working on some new material and work with a new band member NOAH BOND (Guitar/Vocals).
Yes, sadly Sam Copperman our beloved keyboard player will be leaving the band to start up his college career to persue his Jazz studies as a standup bassist.
We are happy for him though.
Take care everyone,

new song

This is a new song. I think it's about death.

"Well I'm just hanging on by a vine
don't know what is wrong don't know what is right.
So take me down to the ocean side.

Tell me just where i stand
and what was there before the beginning X2

Can feel my bones inside
intense nostalgia makes you feel tongue tied.
The kiss of death makes you treasure life.

Tell me just where i stand
and what was there before the beginning X2

Can't look at yourself in the mirror,
the same way.
All Because a part of your soul has died.
Has died.

You left it long ago,
on that broken sand.
Next to your tears and a bright blue sky.
A bright blue sky.

Tell me just where i stand
and what was there before the beginning X2

This could be one of the best songs I have written, and i have never written about death. Exploring new subject matter is an important thing as a songwriter.
You can continue to write love songs, but it is good to seek out new influence other then lust and desire.
Take care everyone,
-jordy

review of our show with Grand Ole Party

This was a rad show. Trevor rolled back into from his rafting trip right on time for this show at the crepe place. Mason's parents and Mason, Hannah Homer, my Dad, and I all ate together before the show took place. It was nice, because Mason and I got complimentary meals.

Here was our set list:

Wild Orphan
White Wolf Eyes
Homesick
Nonsense
Metropolis
Get Your Guns Out
Swagger

This was a fun fun show.
The crowd was quiet, but that is usually how it is when you play first i guess.
When swagger was over i had a nice talk with Kristin the drummer of Grand Ole Party. She is a very nice lady.
After we played, then it was Bastidas.
They were totally loud and intense.
Very different then The Vox Jaguars and Grand ole Party.
Grand Ole Party were so amazing.
Since nearly a year ago when Electric leaves played with them, they had improved a lot. It must've been the fact that they played Coachella and Bonnaroo.
We'll be there sooner or later.
Here are some pictures our friend Brian Harker took that night at the show!

San Francisco Show

On friday we had the pleasure of driving up to San Francisco to play our very first show up there. Jenny our amazing friend drove Sam, John, Mason, and I up there at about 4 O'Clock and we got there pretty fast. As soon as we got there we went to a great taqueria in the mission of sf called Taqueria Cancun. So good.
Besides that we showed up at the venue and were suprised that they didn't give us any shit for being under 21. Arielle showed up and we watched some shitty band open that sounded like they were trying to be the faint while having sex with interpol and arguing over what to wear with the goonies. It was bad. They ended a really long set, and then we rocked it hard. Art was subbing in for Trevor, because trev was on a river rafting trip and chilling hard. We still managed to pull off an alright set filled with chords coming unplugged and picks being dropped.
The venue was the retox lounge and had a nice crowd for our set.
Probablly will play there very soon.

Now back in Santa Cruz for the weekend we have a show with a band I really love.
GRAND OLE PARTY are a radical power soul rock band from San Diego.
Check them out:

www.myspace.com/grandoleparty

They used to go to UCSC which is pretty rad.
We hope you come to the show tonight July 20th At the Crepe place $10 7pm

recording

I have finally done it.
I downloaded Audacity which is a free simple recording program.
Lately i have begun recording music on my computer.
It is simple i know but well worth it. In my house my brother's room was cleared out and now it is FILLED with musical equipment to the brim.
The learning process for a recording program is very slow, but i have completed two songs for the libra (my solo project).
The two songs are called

1. Please Don't Make Me Cry
2. Time Travel

check it out:

www.myspace.com/thelibradreamcatcher

As for the vox jaguars we have a very excited show coming up.
We have a gig in San Francisco which Trevor unfortunately won't be able to play drums at but a great friend Art will be filling in for us on the skins.
The show starts at 9pm and we play third.
Everyone in San Francisco reading this, we hope you attend!

We also tied for the win as the Deli band of the month with Evacuee.

Check it out we are on the banner as band of the month.

new song lyrics

So i started a new moleskine as of Monday and i have been writing like mad.
Yesterday i started two new/different song ideas.
Hopefully when i bring them to the next band practice it'll all work out nicely as new material for The Vox Jaguars.

(Page 12-13)

savage man he is walking hard
speak no evil (they say), but he speaks it all
diabolical why bother to call it danger
he's a stranger to his own blood, to his own blood brother

payed no mind to anybody else's idiosyncrasies
takes his poor troubles to the ocean and then to the sea
wouldn't wash away no it wouldn't wash off the shame
please take these millions of sings and give em' away.

(Page 11)
Lush santuary
i see her
freedom
forever

with darker green grass
for miles
oh oh

with dried flowers a plenty
well why wouldn't we be here
take me to the summer house
we'll reside here

tranquility is golden young transient.

That song is more of a poem, but i think i will play it at The Libra's next show.
Also here is a new video of us.
Kinda rough and the guitar tone i had is kinda thin and quiet but a nice video.
Check it!
